Please join CCIC for a discussion regarding vaccine impact on disease eradication, elimination and burden of disease. This presentation will include the following topics:
- Defining disease eradication, elimination and control
- Key factors in eradicating a disease and requirements for eradication
- Discuss the potential for eradication of some vaccine preventable diseases, including barriers and challenges to their eradication
- Classifications of disease as eradicable, potentially eradicable, not now eradicable
About the Presenter
Dr. Robert Brayden recently retired as Associate Professor of Pediatrics at the University of Colorado School of Medicine. He received his degree in medicine from the St. Louis University School of Medicine. Dr. Brayden was a resident in pediatrics at the University of Colorado and served as Chief Resident at Cardinal Glennon Hospital in St. Louis. He was also a post-doctoral fellow at Vanderbilt University in general and behavioral pediatrics and remained on the Vanderbilt University Department of Pediatrics faculty for five years.
Dr. Brayden joined the University of Colorado Pediatrics faculty in 1994. He has conducted clinical service and research projects in immunization and preventative services delivery. Dr. Brayden has taught general pediatrics in the outpatient clinic at the Colorado Children's Hospital, and he has been a consultant to the Cleft Lip/Cleft Palate Team.
Dr. Brayden is a Fellow of the American Academy of Pediatrics and the past president of the CCIC Board of Directors. In October 2013, Dr. Brayden was named one of four 2013 Career Teaching Scholar Award recipients by the Department of Pediatrics at Children's Hospital Colorado.
