Katherine (Kestel) Waters
Katie serves as Program Coordinator for CCIC after recently completing the Public Health Associate Program with the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). Katie graduated in 2015 from the University of Minnesota Rochester with a B.S. in Health Sciences, where she discovered a passion for public health through various coursework and internships. After college, she served as an AmeriCorps VISTA working to establish county-wide coalitions to address local food insecurity across the state of Iowa. In doing so, she witnessed firsthand the positive impact collaboration between diverse stakeholders can have on a health priority and the community. With special interests in global health, policy, health equality and healthcare innovation, Katie seeks to support and unite all sectors of the public health community to enhance collaboration, communication, and improve efficacy.

Personal Hero: My grandparents, who live a humble life while uplifting and loving everyone around them.
Hometown Fun Fact: I come from the self-proclaimed Popcorn Capital of the World, Schaller, Iowa. Every summer we celebrate the origins of Jolly Time Popcorn and I even had the privilege of serving as Popcorn Princess one year.
Favorite Thing to do in Colorado: Hike, ski and cheer on the Broncos!
Why Vaccinate: There are few procedures in the medical world that are as simple, safe and effective as vaccines. They are a true public health victory that protects not only those who receive them, but our communities as a whole.
