CCIC Provider Education - Times They are a Changin’: Changes in the Epidemiology of Haemophilus Influenzae
Invasive Haemophilus influenzae disease (H flu) remains a public health concern more than 100 years after its discovery. In this presentation, Emily Spence Davizon, MPH, explored the history of H flu and the most well-known type of H flu (type B or Hib), and the impact of Hib vaccines. This presentation described the epidemiology of the different H flu serotypes, changes in clinical syndromes associated with the introduction of Hib vaccines, as well as discuss the results of a “time of serotype” analysis conducted by the state health department. This presentation explored the intricacies of changing epidemiology in the post-vaccine era.
This presentation:
- Discussed the role of the state health department in conducting epidemiological investigations
- Described changes in the epidemiology of Haemophilus influenzae pre and post-influenza
- Examined results of a “time to serotype” analysis
