2011 Sure Shot (Regional) - Janice Poirot
Working as a Registered Nurse since 1985, Janice Poirot received her Bachelor of Education degree in Community Health from Utah State University in 1993. In 2003, she moved to Steamboat Springs to pursue an opportunity to live in the mountains and lead Public Health’s Immunization Program for Routt, Moffat and Jackson Counties at the Northwest Colorado Visiting Nurse Association. Her professional passion lies in conducting outreach to populations with health disparities, particularly the Peruvian sheepherder and Senegalese populations. Janice’s personal passion is to experience beautiful places with her husband and three (nearly) grown children. To satisfy her passion for the performing arts, she is on the Board of Directors of the Steamboat Symphony Orchestra.
“Janice coordinates for vulnerable populations by staging supply delivery, transportation, special clinics, and direct patient care which greatly improves immunization rates. In 2010, she developed and directed a targeted outreach program for over 30 West African political refugees who had little or no access to primary health services including immunizations. This is just one example of her tireless efforts to increase immunization rates and her commitment to educating our community.” -- Sue Birch, Executive Director of the Department of Health Care Policy and Financing and former CEO of the Northwest Colorado Visiting Nurse Association
