Prowers County Public Health and Environment
Jo Lynn has been with Prowers County Public Health & Environment since 1996 and the Immunization Coordinator for the last seventeen years. During this time she has worked in every aspect pertaining to immunizations including performing VFC site visits; establishing a county wide recall system; and developing an immunization schedule and vaccine guidance sheet to assist with learning the complexity of the immunization schedule, minimum intervals and administering the correct vaccine. In 2003 she helped develop the Prowers County Immunization Coalition. The Coalition, which Jo Lynn still continues to lead, provides support and guidance for all local private providers and their staff when it comes to immunization updates, current outbreaks and all topics related to immunizations. She served as a Colorado Immunization Information System (CIIS) Field Coordinator for Southeast Colorado for six years enrolling private providers,public health departments and trained their staff on using CIIS.
Jo Lynn has organized numerous Prowers County Emergency Preparedness and Response Exercises including a Mass Flu Vaccination Exercise in October 2004 providing flu vaccinations to 1,684 people in seven hours. In November 2007, she was the Operations Officer for a full scale drive through flu vaccination exercise at the Prowers County Fair Grounds. Numerous staff and volunteers navigated citizens through various check points while citizens stayed within their vehicle to receive a flu vaccination. Through her work in Emergency Preparedness and Response, Prowers County Public Health & Environment was recognized by the National Association of County and City Health Officials (NACCHO) and CDPHE for participating and meeting specific criteria for Project Public Health Ready (PPHR).
In 2008, CCIC and CDPHE awarded Prowers County Public Health & Environment the Diamond Award for outstanding performance for Jo Lynn’s work regarding immunization outreach throughout Prowers County. Her effort to increase immunization rates as well as to help support her agency has benefited her agency of nine staff, close to $1,000,000 in grant funding. Her knowledge regarding commercial billing also brings in approximately $75,000 of immunization revenue annually. Jo Lynn continues to mentor other Local Public Health Departments on obtaining commercial insurance contracts and assisting them with collecting immunization revenue. She also participates in the CDPHE Board of Health Immunization Work Group.
Jo Lynn is a lifelong resident of Lamar where she enjoys working outside, waterskiing and watching movies. She has officiated college and high school volleyball for 30 years, has two adult children, Shayna, 30, and Brodie, 24, and is expecting her first grandchild in October.
"Jo Lynn appreciates the value of providing immunization to infants, children and adults at the right time, right route and the correct vaccine for the client and continues to remain an advocate for vaccinating all children and adults. She formed the Prowers County Immunization Coalition as a means for providers to network, discuss changes and obtain a better understanding of immunizations.
In 2012, PCPHE began overseeing the operations at the Kiowa County Public Health office.
