2018 Sure Shot (Metro Denver) - Kathie Chichester
Katherine Chichester, RN, BSN
Nurse Manager, Community Based Programs
Kathie Chichester is a Denver native and a graduate of the University of Colorado School of Nursing. She started her nursing career at Denver General Hospital over 25 years ago, working on the Pediatric floor and the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit. In 2001, she moved to the Westside Pediatric Clinic where she began to learn more about vaccines and became the clinic’s immunization champion. In 2010, an opportunity arose to start working with Anne Hammer in the Denver Health Immunization Program. From there, Kathie became the RN Program Manager for DHIP and then Nurse Manager for Community Based Programs.
As a self-professed immunization geek, Ms. Chichester is a Vaccines For Children (VFC) site visitor, a member of the Colorado Children’s Immunization Coalition (CCIC), Colorado Adult Immunization Coalition (CAIC), the Immunization Technical Advisory Group (ITAG), and CCIC’s Team Vaccine Colorado. Her passion is in ongoing continuing education and sharing knowledge with Denver Health staff and the VFC sites she surveys to help provide the best possible vaccine outcomes.
During her off time, she helps raise funds for the Children’s Hospital Colorado Burn Camp and also helps with the restoration of bison habitat on the American Prairie Reserve in Northeast Montana.
"Kathie has provided exemplary leadership and dedication to immunization activities both at Denver Health and throughout the broader community. Through collaboration with numerous stakeholders, she has had a significant impact on our organization and the community to increase immunization rates and awareness. And she is a tireless advocate for vaccines and the protection they provide children and adults. Because of her work, many cases of vaccine-preventable disease have been averted."
