Denver Health Webinar: Ensuring Tdap in Every Pregnancy
Date: Wednesday, April 6, 2016
Time: 12:00 PM - 1:00 PM
Join Denver Public Health for a webinar presented by Judith C. Shlay, MD, MSPH, and Sarah E. Mazzoni, MD, regarding the Tdap vaccine and pregnancy.
Pertussis (whooping cough), caused by the bacteria Bordetella pertussis, can lead to high risk complications in infants. In 2012, 219 people were diagnosed with pertussis in Denver, nearly five times the number of cases seen in 2011. In 2013, the Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices (ACIP) recommended that pregnant women receive the Tdap vaccine during 27-36 weeks of gestation in every pregnancy, optimizing the transportation of antibodies across the placenta from mother to infant. Tdap vaccination during the third trimester is safe for both the mom and the baby and is approximately 90% effective. Join our webinar on April 6, 2016 to learn how to implement this process in your practice and receive a COPIC point for the completed training.
